Lovlina, PV Sindhu and Atanu Elevates India’s Hopes for a Medal

A low-tempo week for India at the Tokyo Olympics gained some momentum as many athletes went to the next round of their competition. The brightest prospect of them is Lovlina Borgohain, who secured the first-ever medal for India in Women’s 69 KG Boxing by going to the Semi-Finals. Archer Atanu Das reached the Quarter Finals, beating the 2012 London Olympics Gold Medalist Oh Jin-Hyek from South Korea. Boxer Satish Kumar beat Jamaica’s Ricardo Brown in his Round of 16 matches. PV Sindhu also reached the Quarter Finals in Women’s Badminton by trumping Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei. The Men’s Hockey team also reached the Quarterfinals beating Argentina. However, India also witnessed a heartbreak in boxer MC Mary Kom’s Exit after she lost to the 2016 Rio Olympics Bronze Medalist Ingrit Valencia.
